Insight is Carbon Neutral
In a rapidly changing world where our mark on the planet is being shown to have a potential impact on the lives of future generations, Insight believes that it is a prime responsibility of every business to monitor and mitigate that effect as much as possible within the constraints of operating profitably and successfully.
As we have become closely involved in reporting on the environmental footprint of many of our clients, and being mindful of the increasing desire for major corporates to seek to implement a carbon neutral supply chain, Insight’s board and management made the decision in early 2008 to transform ourselves into a carbon neutral operation.
To measure the impact our business had on the environment, Carbon Planet conduct an independent greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions audit of our entire business in Australia and New Zealand which includes direct and indirect emissions along the supply chain. From our initial audit at the end of the FY2008 we instigated a programme of reduction, and our audit at the end of FY2009 showed a 45.8% reduction from the previous year – a saving of 115 tonnes of CO2e,
Where we are unable to reduce our emissions any further, we have offset those emissions through the purchase of carbon credits. As a result, Insight’s entire operation in both countries is now CO2 free.
About Carbon Planet
Insight chose to partner with carbon emission consultancy Carbon Planet because it is recognised for its transparency, scientific approach and compliance with stringent international standards and protocols including:
- The World Business Council for Sustainable Development's GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standards.
- ISO14064-1 Greenhouse Gases.
- World Resources Institute Standards.
- Australian Energy Audits Standard AS/NZ 3598:2000.
Carbon Planet is also committed to sourcing carbon credits with the best collateral environmental benefits and is the only organisation currently transferring legal title of carbon credits to the purchaser. Carbon Planet is currently the only carbon management consultancy to have its operations and services certified Greenhouse Friendly™ by the Australia Government's Department of Climate Change.
Internal Initiatives
An ongoing reduction program is actively managed to ensure emissions are kept to a minimum, whilst still being commercially viable.
The reduction plan includes continuous reviews and improvements of recycling, lighting, equipment, internal policies and procedures, future office fit-outs and procurement. Sustainable business practices are integrated into the operational procedures of the business. Annual audits will be conducted using our 07/08 baseline to monitor improvements. Annual carbon emissions will continue to be offset with carbon credits, effectively outsourcing emissions that cannot be operationally reduced due either to business processes or cost within any given financial year.
